Prolific children’s author Ann McGovern died on August 8 at her home in New York City. She was 85. Scholastic chairman, CEO, and president Dick Robinson called her "a creative and passionate force in children's books, bringing her own love of life to the work she cared so much about: exciting children to be curious about the adventure of life and learning." more


Penguin's Plan to Encourage
Crayon Donation

Penguin is teaming up with the Crayon Collection charity to encourage booksellers and educators to collect and share gently-used crayons to children who can't afford them. The initiative is in conjunction with the August 18 release of Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers's The Day the Crayons Came Home, sequel to last year’s The Day the Crayons Quit. more
