Flurry of six-figure deals get LBF off to a bangA series of six-figure deals have been completed on the eve of this year’s London Book Fair.
Alex Clarke and Jessica Leeke at Michael Joseph bought UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, to Good Me, Bad Me, the début thriller by Ali Land, in a pre-empt from Juliet Mushens at The Agency Group. The novel is narrated by Milly, the 15-year-old daughter of a serial killer, who has a new foster family.

Ignoring subscription imperils sales
Publishers risk losing sales and “consigning themselves to the past” if they ignore subscription services, providers have warned.
Speaking to The Bookseller Daily, subscription companies Scribd, Blloon, Mofibo and Bookmate have moved to counter recent criticism of the model.
Anderson and Nadel pen self-help guide for women
Actress Gillian Anderson and journalist Jennifer Nadel are writing a “revolutionary self-help guide for women”.
WE is described as an “urgent and timely book for women, which offers a dramatically new path to fulfilment”.
HarperNonFiction publisher Natalie Jerome and editorial director Carolyn Thorn bought UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, to WE in a “hotly contested nine-publisher auction” from Claire Conrad at Janklow & Nesbit.



Horobin to join Bonnier Publishing Fiction
James Horobin, previously group sales, marketing and publicity director at Simon & Schuster, is to join the recently launched Bonnier Publishing Fiction division as executive director with responsibility for sales and marketing.
Horobin, who left S&S last month, will take up his new position in September.
New memoir to mark Athill's 99th birthday
Granta Books has acquired a further volume of memoir by former Costa Biography Award winning-author Diana Athill.
Editorial director Bella Lacey acquired world rights to the book, titled Alive, Alive Oh! And Other Things That Matter, from Rebecca Carter at Janklow and Nesbit.
Springer launches book metrics tool
Springer has developed a new platform, Bookmetrix, to offer title and chapter level metrics across all of their books.
Bookmetrix has been developed in partnership with Altmetric.
The data captured on Bookmetrix is displayed on the book pages of Springer's content platform SpringerLink and reports on how often an individual book or chapter is mentioned, shared, reviewed or read online, updating in real time.
 Markets summit for FBF
Frankfurt Book Fair (FBF) is launching a new conference which will focus on seven different publishing markets. “The Markets: Global Publishing Summit” will launch on 13th October 2015, helping publishers around the world to “understand and create partnerships in seven important current and future markets”.
Chris Evans switches to Orion
Radio DJ and television presenter Chris Evans is moving from HarperCollins to Orion for the third volume of his memoirs.
Orion non-fiction publisher Alan Samson bought world rights to Call the Midlife from Michael Foster at Fostermco Limited.
