Toi te Reo - True Stories Told Live


An event celebrating Te Wiki o te reo Māori Language at City Gallery / He kaupapa whakanui i Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori ki Toi Pōneke

On Wednesday 23 July, City Gallery Wellington will be celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori/ Māori Language Week with a stellar line-up of celebrated New Zealand musicians, writers, speakers, artists and storytellers including Nancy Brunning, Hinemoana Baker, Glenn Colquhoun and Riki Gooch. Toi te Reo offers a whanau friendly night of puoro/ music, nga toi / art and korero/ storytelling.

With the gallery open late until 10pm, there’ll be a range of events happening across the evening including music by Riki Gooch, Ngā Tāngata Kōrero mō Te Reo (True Stories Told Live) in both English and te Reo Māori, artist & designer Johnson Witehira’s collaborative art project, a bilingual exhibition tour and family activities.
There’ll also be delicious food, beer, wine and soda available for purchase on the night.

Timetable for Toi te Reo
5 – 7pm:
DJ set from acclaimed Wellington musician Riki Gooch

6pm:
Bilingual exhibition tour in both te Reo Māori and English

7 – 8.30pm:
Ngā Tāngata Kōrero mō Te Reo (True Stories Told Live) with renowned New Zealand authors and speakers; Hinemoana Baker, Glenn Coluqhoun, Whiti Hereaka, Ashley Mackenzie-White, Hōhepa Pōtini (Ngāti Toa), Kura Moeahu (Taranaki Whānui), Apirana Taylor and Nancy Brunning. Through totally unscripted storytelling, these vibrant personalities will share true stories, from the humorous to awkward, around the theme of peace.

8.30 - 9.30pm:
Riki Gooch will return with a special set of original work especially created for Toi te Reo.

Toi te Reo is presented in partnership with Wellington City Council, the NZ Book Council and Te Taura Whiri: Maori Language Commission.
