Mahy's granddaughter, Alice Mahy, read one of her grandmother's much-loved stories to a class of children from Clifton Terrace School as she and her mother Penny Mahy were were at Wellington City Library for the launch of NZ Post's latest stamp issue, which celebrates the author's body of work.
Ivor Masters, head of stamps and coins at NZ Post, said it was fitting that Mahy's work was recognised with a stamp issue as she had been awarded the NZ Post Book of the Year award multiple times.
The five stamps feature scenes from some of Mahy's most popular books: A Lion in the Meadow (70c), A Summery Saturday Morning ($1.40), The Word Witch ($1.90), The Great White Man-Eating Shark ($2.40) and The Changeover ($2.90).
Mahy died last year, aged 76.
The stamps are available in selected PostShops from today
