Sally Forth comic strip writer Francecso Marciuliano recently published I Could Pee on This, a collection of poems written from the point-of-view of cats.
As a special gift to GalleyCat readers, we’ve printed his “Bookstore Cats” poem below, an ode to four-legged booksellers that is not included in the book. Here’s more about the book:
Cat lovers will laugh out loud at the quirkiness of their feline friends with these insightful and curious poems from the singular minds of housecats. In this hilarious book of tongue-in-cheek poetry, the author of the internationally syndicated comic strip Sally Forth helps cats unlock their creative potential and explain their odd behavior to ignorant humans. With titles like “Who Is That on Your Lap?,” “This Is My Chair,” “Kneel Before Me,” “Nudge,” and “Some of My Best Friends Are Dogs,” the poems collected in I Could Pee on This perfectly capture the inner workings of the cat psyche.

Bookstore Cats by Francecso Marciuliano

Some cats sit up high in the Travel aisle
Seeking a faraway land
Some cats get the lowdown in the Crafts section
On redecorating with a swipe of the hand
Some cats look overjoyed in the Humor department
Rolling on the floor and busting their guts
While other cats stare intensely at the Parenting shelf
To stop their kittens from driving them nuts
Some cats just take a stroll down Young Adult
Wondering when every teen became a vampire
As a few cats get lost in Fantasy
Wondering if that small man will ever return to his shire
Some cats pull up a seat in Cooking and Baking
To lick a photo of a big fat cannoli
And this cat holes up behind the storeowner
Because a pop-up book scared the crap out of me.
