Al Brown's Depot

Following the launch of Get Fresh last month when I bemoaned the fact that I had never been able to get in to Al Brown's insanely popular Depot Eatery in Auckland city I am pleased to report that I have now been there for a meal.
Al's Random House publicist Rebecca Simpson was determined I was going to have meal there before 2012 came to a close so she cunningly turned up there at 11.25am this morning and secured us a table for five of us before the lunchtime invasion began.

I can now understand why the place has gained such a huge reputation in the 15 months or so since it opened.
The food was stunning. Without exception everything we ate, (we ordered share plates), was fresh, delicious, beautifully cooked and wonderfully presented by the attentive wait staff.
From the smoked kahawai cakes with egg & gherkin mayo, to the snapper sliders with preserved lemon mayo and watercress, the kingfish belly with green olive, lime and fresh herb to the free range chicken with Israeli couscous, aubergine & yoghurt the whole meal was a knockout.
And the good news is that Depot is being doubled in space early in 2013 so it may even be easier to get a table in future.
Thanks Al, thanks Rebecca, it was a treat being there.
