'New Watership Down' to HoZ

12.09.12 | Charlotte Williams - The Bookseller

Head of Zeus has acquired a novel from columnist Terence Blacker, set in the world of rats and being compared to Richard Adams' classic Watership Down.
HoZ m.d. Anthony Cheetham bought UK and Commonwealth rights to The Twyning from Caroline Sheldon, with Carter Hasegawa acquiring US rights simultaneously from Penny Holroyde for Candlewick Press. Publication date is to be confirmed.
The book is described as "an epic story set in the world of both humans and rats . . . a powerful, page-turning and beautifully-plotted read, thrilling one moment, poignant the next." Sheldon likened the novel to Watership Down, and said it “has the quality to be a cult bestseller across adult and teen markets”.
Cheetham said: "The Twyning is a novel of great potency and quality, a parable in the mould of Watership Down or Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh. It is a delight to work with an author as inspiring as Terence Blacker."
