This GalleyCat editor battled mid-afternoon traffic in Los Angeles to cover Microsoft’s press conference for the Microsoft Surface tablet. Scheduled for 4:00 p.m. yesterday, the event started after everybody in New York City had gone home for dinner.
You can read all about the new family of tablets over at AppNewser. The devices feature an attachable keyboard, a nifty kickstand and one model even has a stylus–all important tools for the mobile author. Nevertheless, they did not reveal a price for the new tablet and nobody had firm release date. You have to wait.
We waited an hour to see the device up close. At one point, a BBC cameraman shot some footage as we wrote about the Microsoft Surface on an iPad. When we finally got to touch the tablet, we asked to see the Kindle or Barnes & Noble eBook app–but they weren’t prepared to show that yet. You have to wait. We asked to see the stylus in action up close, but they weren’t demonstrating that either. You have to wait.
As this GalleyCat editor drove home in the heavy 6:00 pm traffic, he chanted “You have to wait!” as the highway slowed to a rush hour crawl. The sun shone in our eyes as we drafted this post in our head. For a brief moment, we had held the skinny Microsoft Surface in our hands.
