EL James hits one million mark on Kindle in UK

EL James has been revealed as Amazon.co.uk’s bestselling e-book author ever, with her debut erotica novel Fifty Shades of Grey reaching sales of over one million on Kindle.
The online retailer said James's novel is the “number one bestselling Kindle book of all time” in the UK, while physical sales of her Fifty Shades trilogy (Arrow) combine to make James Amazon’s bestselling author so far this year. Her digital sales exceed the physical, though, with Kindle sales of Fifty Shades outselling the paperback version by more than two to one on Amazon.
The Bookseller reported sales of Fifty Shades to the week ending June 17th had reached 765,000 thanks to a record-breaking 205,000 weekly sale, and could top a million this week.
The success of the trilogy has sparked a wave or erotica releases from other publishers, with Little, Brown publishing Haven of Obedience by Marina Anderson on Thursday (28th June), HarperCollins releasing Destined to Play by Indigo Bloome on 12th July in digital and Orion publishing Eighty Days Yellow by Vina Jackson on 19th July.
Gordon Willoughby, EU director of Kindle, said: “E L James’ books have become both the fastest-selling and the best-selling series ever on Kindle. That’s an exceptional achievement for a debut novelist and we’re excited to see her pass the one million sales milestone.”
