Meet authors, eat cupcakes in Ponsonby this Saturday............

Saturday 24 March 2012

It’s just like being back in England at the moment – everyone is complaining about the weather. But with good reason. We New Zealanders are feeling mightily cheated. When people ask us when to visit New Zealand we tell them ‘come in February or March – it’s always settled, the sky’s always blue’. Not this year. ‘Summer’ started in December; weather was rubbish. January – worse. February, still it came. March – sodden.

Parents are feeling the pinch as weekend trips to the movies replace the traditional family day at the beach. But wait! Help is at hand – when you’re staring out of the window on Saturday morning at yet another grey sky dripping its drizzle over your lush green garden (remember how it was a dust bowl this time last year?), wondering how to entertain the kids, say to yourself ‘aha, wasn’t there something on at the Children’s Bookshop in Ponsonby?’

Bring them on down at 11 am to meet ‘Milly and the Chittens’ author Julie Scott, and me, Sue Copsey. Our daughters are baking ghost- and chitten-themed cupcakes (Julie and I have narrowly avoided Cupcake Wars by explaining that they have to SHARE the catering); there are competitions, readings, a prize draw, and it’s all free.

See the poster above for more details – it would be great to see you there.
