Katie Allen's A Week in Books - The Bookseller

» Making a mark
The first Watermark bookshop in Europe has opened at London's King's Cross this week, with 7,000 books available for sale across the 1,100 sq ft shop. Former Waterstones Islington manager Farah Taylor is manager and buyer and has employed 10 staff. Watermark hopes to open up to 35 Watermark stores at airport and railway locations in the country. A pleasant rejoinder to Deloitte's prediction that four out of 10 shops will close by 2017.

» Even wimpier
Puffin has revealed the publication date of the seventh title in Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Penguin Children's Books m.d. Francesca Dow revealed the date—14th November—at Bologna Children's Book Fair this week. "Watch out for our big plans!" she said.

A Wave of acclaim
More big news from Puffin from Bologna as the publisher snaps up "I Am Number Four meets The Hunger Games" aka Rick Yancey's The Fifth Wave trilogy for a rumoured seven-figure sum.
» A medal example
Double Booker winner Peter Carey is to receive the Bodley Medal, the 366-year-old accolade awarded by the Bodleian Libraries of the University of Oxford on the 1st April at the Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival.
