Foyles launches ebook store app

Foyles, a leading independent bookshop, has created it first ebook store app and relaunched its ebook shop.

Founded in 1903, the family-owned bookshop which has outposts across London and one in Bristol, has joined forces with txtr, a German ebook platform, to launch the new ebook shop and app.
Foyles’s new ebook shop offers more than 200,000 titles and a free app, which is available on both Android and iOS devices.
Once a user has created an account, readers will be able to access their personal ebook library from any internet-enabled reading device. The web store also offers a cloud storage option. The apps will allow people to sync bookmarks and notes across devices.
In a similar style to Apple’s iBooks, people who download the app will be able to use ‘bookshelf view’, to see their ebook collection organised on a virtual shelf. It also offers the option to sort books by title, author, or recently read – useful for larger libraries.
Sam Husain, Foyles’s chief executive, said: “Our new eBook store and apps, Foyles powered by txtr, will make buying and reading eBooks as easy as possible, without the added expense of having to buy new hardware. It is the next step in our on-going journey to serve our customers with a choice of books, across the widest possible range, in every format.”
Other leading bookshops, such as Waterstones, have ebook stores, but do not yet offer an app version of their digital shops.
Foyles’s ebook shop allows the reader to search for book either by genre or channlels – such as ‘featured books’ or ‘new releases’.
