Exciting news from the Arts Foundation

Thanks to the initiative of German publisher C H Beck, two classic works of Icon Janet Frame will be reissued in Germany this year to coincide with the status of New Zealand as special guest at the Frankfurt Book Fair.  The first title is a new translation of Janet Frame’s first novel Owls Do Cry (Wenn Eulen Schrein, 1957) and will be released in Germany this month. The first edition of Wenn Eulen Schrein was published in 1961 and was Janet Frame’s very first foreign translation. Later in the year Beck will release a fresh edition of Frame’s autobiography, which has been as popular in Germany as it has been everywhere else.

John Psathas’ (Laureate) soundtrack for the Salman Rushdie short story In the South has now been released as an eBook by Booktrack.  The score was written for and recorded live by the NZSO.  John now awaits the outcome of his nomination for ‘Global Greek of the Year’ award.   Promoted by Global Greek World, the award is an online forum for the 7 million Greeks who live outside their native land. Online voting determines the winner and closes Sunday 19 February.  In addition Good for Nothing, the 'pavlova western' feature film for which John wrote the "gritty, dirty" soundtrack, has its cinema release in New York on Friday 9 March and in New Zealand on Thursday 3 May.  The NZ School of Music will release an original soundtrack CD of the music.
