Armchair Travelling for Children

Japanese Nursery Rhymes: Carp Streamers, Falling Rain and other traditional favourites presents fifteen vibrantly illustrated verses in Japanese script, Romanized form, and English in an interlinear format that encourages language learning. The audio CD shares all the rhymes in both Japanese and English – songs so lively and sweet you’ll find yourself singing along!
An alternative to Traditional Mother Goose Rhymes.
The Rhymes: Each rhyme has been carefully chosen by Danielle Wright, creator of www.itsasmallworld.co.nz, which showcases international nursery rhymes, as well as of her award-winning multilingual nursery rhyme book My Village, published by Gecko Press (NZ/AUS) and Frances Lincoln (UK, USA) and with an introduction by Michael Rosen. The delicate and beautiful Japanese verses with an emphasis on the natural world and dedicated to the many tiny moments that make childhood special, are revealing of the Japanese culture as well as a great introduction to another language.
The Music: Composed by Devonport’s Alex Borwick (BB & Alex), each song is beautiful and lively, and sung by local North Shore schoolchildren Emma Sanders (St John’s Primary, Mairangi Bay), Jessica Rogers and Gabi Wannenburg (both Carmel, Milford).
The illustrations: This is Helen Acraman’s first book, and each illustration is delightful in capturing the world from a childlike perspective. Acraman is a New Zealand artist living in Toronto, Canada. Her whimsical graphic works reflect a passion for environmental issues, natural living and the childlike quality that lives in everyone.
Distributed by South Pacific Books (www.spbooks.co.nz) in New Zealand and available widely around the world in bookstores and online at www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com
