Agents Andrew Kidd and Georgia Garrett, critics Alex Clark and Suzi Feay, and publishers Jason Arthur and Ursula Doyle are among the members of the advisory committee of the new Literature Prize. The Prize, designed "to establish a clear and uncompromising standard of excellence", was announced last month, following controversial remarks about "readability" as a criterion for the Man Booker Prize.

The committee is:

       *  Jason Arthur, Publisher, William Heinemann, Hutchinson and Windmill
       * Eric Chinski, Editor-In-Chief, Farrar Straus & Giroux, USA
  • Alex Clark, critic and broadcaster
  • Ursula Doyle, Associate Publisher, Virago
  • Suzi Feay, critic and former Literary Editor, Independent on Sunday
  • Georgia Garrett, literary agent and Director, Rogers, Coleridge & White
  • Jacqueline Graham, PR and publishing consultant
  • Kate Harvey, Editorial Director, Picador
  • Lynn Henry, Publishing Director, Doubleday Canada
  • Andrew Kidd, literary agent and Director, Aitken Alexander Associates
  • Cormac Kinsella, Publicity Director, Book Sales and Marketing Company, Repforce, Ireland
Among the committee's responsibilities will be the appointment of a Literature Prize Academy, a collective of writers and critics who will serve as judges on a rolling basis.
