FLEUR - THE LIFE AND TIMES

Nicola Legat reports on the launch of this fascinating memoir
There are not too many book launches where the attendees turn up in crinolines (the women) and top hats (the men)  but such was the case at the launch of Fleur Sullivan’s book at her utterly amazing Loan &Merc restaurant in Oamaru on Saturday night.
Heritage Week in the town’s extraordinary Victorian-era Whitestone district  was in full swing, hence the Victorian kit, and it certainly added atmosphere to a restaurant that has atmosphere in abundance.
Everywhere Fleur goes she sprinkles magic, and she is certainly doing that with this vast place.  The Whitestone district is going from strength to strength and as it does it builds even more interest in this remarkable and visionary entrepreneur.
It was a very happy evening, with lots of great speeches and plenty of laughs. Many old friends had come from far away, which shows how much Fleur is loved.
And as I got on the plane home from Dunedin last night, there was someone reading a copy across the aisle from me. Nice.
