According to the anonymous job site Glassdoor.com, the average salary for a book publicist in the New York area is $37,093 a year.

At Random House, an associate publicist averages $37,280 a year. This figure is based on five respondents whose salary ranged from $30-$41,000 a year. A publicist at the company averages $43,731 a year. This is based on two respondents whose salary ranged from $41-47,000 a year.
At Penguin, an Associate Publicist averages $36,961 a year. This figure is based on two respondents whose salary ranged from $34-40,000 a year.
At HarperCollins, an assistant editor averages $30,400 a year. This figure is based on five respondents whose salary ranged from $30-31,000 a year.
