The CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger 2011

The longlist for the 2011 CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger was announced at the CWA Daggers awards ceremony at the Theakston’s Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival, held at the Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate on Friday, 22 July.

The broadest definition of the thriller novel is used for books eligible for the CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger; these can be set in any period and include, but are not limited to, spy fiction and/or action/ adventure stories. Ian Fleming said there was one essential criterion for a good thriller - that ‘one simply has to turn the page’; this is one of the main characteristics that the judges will be looking for. To be eligible in this round, books must have had their first UK publication between 1 June 2010 and 31 May 2011.

The eight authors in contention for this year’s coveted prize are, in alphabetical order:
Charles Cumming The Trinity Six (HarperCollins)
Frederick Forsyth The Cobra (Bantam Press)
Michael Gruber The Good Son (Atlantic Books)
Steve Hamilton The Lock Artist (Orion)
Chris Morgan Jones An Agent of Deceit (Mantle)
Craig Smith Cold Rain (Myrmidon)
SJ Watson Before I Go To Sleep (Doubleday)
Don Winslow Savages (William Heinemann)
