The biannual visit to Bath of the PBFA Illustrated and Children's Fair with Detective Fiction is nearly upon us.

Ibookcollector - newsletter No.255

On Saturday 9th April Bath's Assembly Rooms will host over thirty specialist dealers with the usual fine array of stock, there will be popular favourites from the world of children's literature for just a few pounds ranging up to the rare and wonderful from the world of illustrated books.
Throw in a couple of cracking detective novels and you've got yourself a fine day out.

This is a wonderful opportunity to seek out a long lost children’s classic, find a beautifully illustrated book or unearth a rare gem from the world of detective fiction. Shelves will be crammed with adventures of The Famous Five, Swallows and Amazons and The Chalet School Girls, not forgetting William and Biggles. There will be many fine examples from the golden age of children’s books, when the Victorians and Edwardians created a boom in children’s publishing. On the Detective side, you’ll find the skills of Morse, Miss Marple and Sherlock Holmes. Illustrators will include the intricate work of Arthur Rackham, the stylish skill of Ardizzone or the bizarre style of Mervyn Peake as well as the older masters of illustration who were used to enhance many a fine antiquarian book.

One special feature will be the valuation desk. Members of the public are invited to bring up to five items to be valued by a panel of specialist dealers in Children’s Books. This is a free valuation! The valuation will be a guide price that would be offered by a dealer for the item, giving account of its condition and scarcity. This will happen around noon and last for up to two hours.

It's worth noting that the PBFA Bath Premier Fair has switched to October this year, but there will be a variety of interesting exhibits at this smaller fair.

Saturday 9th April in The Assembly Rooms Bath 10.00 - 4.00. Admission £2
