NEW APPOINTMENTS FOR NEW ZEALAND BOOK MONTH

New Zealand Book Month announces a full team in place for March 2011.

Gina Colcord joins the NZ Book Month team on 17th January to handle publicity for all elements of the campaign.
Gina’s career as a senior publicist within publishing spans over 16 years. During this time she has worked for Transworld Publishers, Random House NZ, Southern Publishers Group, Hachette NZ and most recently, Penguin Group (NZ). She has been instrumental in building authors into bestselling brands and managing highly successful campaigns for John Kirwan, Kelvin Cruickshank and Willie Apiata VC (NZSAS) to name a few.

“I am delighted to have Gina join the NZ Book Month team”, says project director Nikki Crowther. “Gina brings strong media contacts and relationships, and a wealth of experience in shaping and managing publicity campaigns for books”.

Leanne McGregor also joins NZ Book Month with immediate effect. Leanne will work on a part-time basis to manage all web content and to co-ordinate the marketing campaign. Leanne graduated from the Whitireia publishing programme in 2009 and has made her home in the book world after dabbling in teaching and finance. In 2010 she accepted an internship at Penguin Group (NZ), where she continues to work part-time in addition to taking in freelance proofreading. “Leanne brings both fresh ideas and a keen eye for detail that we have already come to respect and rely on”, says Nikki Crowther.

These two appointments bring the NZ Book Month team to full strength as Gina and Leanne join Beth Davies, National Co-ordinator, and Nikki Crowther.

In June this year, New Zealand Book Month announced it would move to March 2011. This followed months of consultation – with schools, publishers, librarians, authors and booksellers – to identify the optimum month that everybody involved in books could get behind. It also broadened its campaign to include ALL books and reading, whilst continuing to champion New Zealand books and authors within the wider campaign.
