Jamie's recipe for quick sales: Latest book, 30-Minute Meals is fastest selling nonfiction work ever

By Daily Mail Reporter,  9th December 2010

It’s a simple idea, but has made Jamie Oliver a fortune, as his latest cookery guide was named the fastest-selling nonfiction book of all time.

Jamie’s 30-minute Meals was released just over two months ago and has already sold 735,000 copies - an average of 10,500 a day.

Despite a hefty price tag of £26, shops have been inundated with demand and it has topped the bestseller lists every week since it came out.

With a week to go, it has already smashed the ten-week sales record previously held by comedian Peter Kay’s memoir The Sound of Laughter which sold 483,000 copies in that period after it came out in 2006.

With sales only expected to rise as the Christmas shopping frenzy sets in, he may even topple the crown of Britain’s favourite TV chef Delia Smith.
Her book How To Cook (Book 1), released during her 1998 television series of the same name, is the bestselling nonfiction hardback of all time in any genre - selling just over one million copies since it came out.

Jamie’s 30-minute Meals, featuring 50 ideas for quick three-course dinners, promises ‘a revolutionary approach to cooking good food fast’.

His publisher writes: ‘Jamie proves that, by mastering a few tricks and being organized and focused in the kitchen, it is absolutely possible, and easy, to get a complete meal on the table in the same amount of time you’d normally spend making one dish!

‘They include main course recipes with side dishes as well as puddings and drinks, and are all meals you’ll be proud to serve your family and friends. You’ll be amazed by what you’re able to achieve.’

In the past seven days alone the book has sold 110,000 copies, well ahead of the next two most popular books - Guinness World Records at 50,444 copies, and ‘The Simples Life’ by The Meerkat at 37,640.

What? There's somebody who spends 30 minutes preparing one dish?

Not one dish - a three course meal!

Ooh nice! I think Shelley doesn't watch Rachael Ray. She actually has a segment for 30-minute meals.
