Amazon Launches In Italy

Book2Book -  Tuesday 23 Nov 2010

The company says that while it has served Italian customers since 1995, the launch of http://www.amazon.it/ marks the first time it has sold directly to the market.

Amazon says that the site launches with more categories than any of its others has at launch, including more than two million Italian and foreign language books and customers are being offered an initial 30% discount on most of its books.

About 15 years ago I had a chat with an Italian businessman who told me that book buying percentages in Italy are one of the lowest in Europe; most of them are content with watching TV game shows - the opposite of France and Germany. Amazon is thus being being rather brave?
