News from the Michael King Writers' Centre

Bill Direen currently holds the six-month Auckland University/Creative New Zealand Writer's Residence at the Michael King Writers' Centre. He has two events coming up:

Bill Direen: Writings and Recordings
The University of Auckland, English Department Seminar, Wednesday 13 October, 3 to 4 pm
Room 848, 1-11 Short Street, Auckland City
All welcome

".....Much of his writing during his (six month) tenure has been concerned quite literally with his physical situation, his position, his placement, upon either shore, when not reflecting upon the passages of water-crossing he undertakes almost daily....As well as considering issues relating to geographical location and identity, Direen has always loved the theatre. He remembers an intensive rehearsal schedule for a Shakespearean production directed by Ngaio Marsh (1972) and later founded an alternative theatre himself to explore Artaud's theories (1984-85). His novels have a theatrical and lyrical aspect. Bill proposes to read extracts from some of his novels and to share with those who come along the melodies and rhythms that existed in his mind at the time of writing them."

Bill Direen (and friends): Bilders "Mindful" album launch
