JONATHAN FRANZEN – FREEDOM

HarperCollins ANZ Statement

As has been reported in media stories over the past 24 hours, it has been discovered that some final, minor corrections failed to make it into the first printed version of Jonathan Franzen's long-awaited new novel Freedom, published in the UK, Australia and New Zealand this month.

It was a typesetter's error and the mistakes involve the occasional word, spelling and punctuation. The fundamentals of this remarkable novel were not affected, with the plot and ending remaining as the author intended. This mistake was realised on Friday.

HarperCollins Australia and New Zealand are printing a new edition, containing the final corrections and are offering an exchange to any member of the public who purchased the original edition. Remaining copies of the original edition in our warehouses will be pulped.

We will be happy to offer readers the opportunity to exchange their copy for a new one. Readers should ring the telephone number(s) during business hours below to arrange for a new copy. The new edition including final corrections of Freedom will be available as soon as possible. This edition will be identifiable as it will be stickered with a review quote from the NY Times.

Booksellers should also talk to their HarperCollins Account Manager or Customer Service at HarperCollins.
