When will Apple sell books in Australia?
Sydney Morning Herald, September 3, 2010

Where are Australia's much-hyped eBooks for the iPad?

It's been four months since Apple launched the iPad in Australia. Initially Australians were going to miss out on access to the iBookstore - one of the iPad's big initial selling points. There was no mention of the iBookstore on Apple's Australian iPad pages, plus the fine print on the US site said "iBooks is available only in the U.S.". Then Apple did a last-minute backflip and declared that Australians would have access to the iBookstore at the launch of the iPad.

The big disappointment for Australians is that, four months later, there still aren't any books for sale. You can only choose from a long list of free - not to mention very, very old - public domain titles from the likes of Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. I'm all for getting back in touch with the classics, but surely it's time to ramp things up. I checked with Apple Australia and there are still no details available as to when we'll see books for sale.
