Two significant publishing gongs for Random House New Zealand

Random House New Zealand walked away with two significant awards at an industry awards dinner held at the Langham Hotel in Auckland, on Sunday 29 August. Random House has been awarded the much coveted ‘Publisher of the Year’ and ‘Best Local Publisher’, as voted for by booksellers.

Karen Ferns, Managing Director of Random House New Zealand proudly accepted the award and paid tribute to the whole team, saying that “Winning ‘Publisher of the Year’ really counts as a signal of how our customers appreciate that we strive to give them the best books, sales and marketing ideas and service that we can. I think also booksellers appreciate that we keep striving to improve. We are not the sort of people who are content to stand still.”

On accepting the award for ‘Best Local Publisher’, Nicola Legat, Publishing Director, said ‘It is a great honour to receive this award especially as it’s for the fourth time. There is so much wonderful publishing in this country and collectively publishers have raised the bar so high in the last few years that sometimes I wonder if we will continue to be able to leap over it. But we do — and we should be so proud of the high standard that is achieved. The book trade has been challenged since the global financial crisis hit, and we are delighted to be able to bring booksellers the high quality books that attract and bring customers into their stores.’

In addition, Keith Bitchener, Sales Representative, was runner-up for the second year in a row for the North Island.
