Hachette to publish Mary Robinson's memoir

09.09.10 - The Bookseller

Hodder & Stoughton and Hachette Ireland have fought off competition from eight other publishers to acquire human rights campaigner Mary Robinson's memoir.

Editor Rowena Webb bought British Commonwealth rights excluding Canada but including Europe from agent Mary Clemmey acting on behalf of Lynn C Franklin Associates in New York.

Everybody Matters will be published in autumn 2012. Robinson was the first female president of Ireland from 1990 to 1997 and was the UN high commissioner for human rights from 1997 to 2002. In 2009 she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama.

Webb said: "Mary Robinson has long been one of my heroes. I know she will write an important and inspiring book and it’s a huge privilege to be helping her to bring it to the widest possible readership."
