Nosy Crow recruits Amster as head of design

13.07.10 | Philip Jones reporting in The Bookseller

Independent children's publisher Nosy Crow has recruited Stephanie Amster to be its head of design.
It is the third senior appointment at the publisher since it was launched in February by former Scholastic m.d. and Headline chief executive Kate Wilson. Amster follows Kate Burns, who joins as head of picture books in August, and digital product director Deb Gaffin, who joined in April.

Amster moves across on 13th September. She is currently deputy art director at Orchard Books and prior to that was an assistant art director at Walker Books. Amster has 18 years' experience of working on bestselling picture books such as The Dirty Great Dinosaur, The Princess Who Had No Kingdom and I Don't Want a Posh Dog and has worked with picture book authors and illustrators including Giles Andreae, Martin Waddell, Angela Barrett and Debi Gliori.

Wilson said: "We’re delighted that someone with Steph’s experience and skill is keen to join the team at Nosy Crow. She has a real passion for illustration, combined with a great eye and a hands-on attention to detail that makes this role - creating the look of the Nosy Crow list - an ideal one for her."

Describing Nosy Crow as "forward-thinking and bursting with energy", Amster said, "you just know when something clicks!". She added: "The opportunity to grow something from seed - to help shape the visual identity of a list - is both creatively challenging and very exciting. I can't wait to get started!"
