It would seem the trend to cook slowly may still be gaining momentum.  Looking at the first three months of 2009 and 2010, sales of slow cooking books looked similar. Now that the chill has begun to kick in, the 2010 volumes are noticeably pulling away from last year, reaching over 7,000 units in the Mother’s Day week (against 2,400 last year). This year’s spike was helped tremendously by several well-timed new releases (Slow, Robyn Martin's Favourite Recipes for Crockpots and Slow Cookers, Joan Bishop's New Zealand Crockpot and Slow Cooker Cookbook).

In 2009, the crockpot and slow cooker books reached their highest volume sales (3.7K) in the week ending 5 June. In fact, 100 Ways to Use Slow Cookers and Crockpots was number one on the NZ Top 1500 chart that week!
Will sales in 2010 continue to track above last year? Only time will tell just how much steam is left in the slow cooker…
