Anthony Bourdain back with meltdown tale

19.03.10 | Benedicte Page in The Bookseller

Swashbuckling chef and writer Anthony Bourdain is returning this summer with what is being billed as a sequel to Kitchen Confidential (HarperCollins), the down and dirty confessional of life behind the scenes in restaurant kitchens which propelled him to fame in 2000.

Medium Raw will be published by Bloomsbury on 7th June (h/b, £18.99) and will tell the story of how the knife-loving American chef’s life descended into chaos under the impact of his sudden success. Bourdain will visit the UK at the end of August for the Edinburgh International Book Festival and an author tour.

Kitchen Confidential
was an immediate hit on both sides of the Atlantic, with UK sales through Nielsen BookScan approaching 200,000 copies. The book also led to a TV presenting career for the author, who fronted a series about food adventures around the world also published as A Cook’s Tour.

The shortlists (of six in each category) will be announced at a debate on ‘have the political classes been fatally weakened?’, at Thomson Reuters on Thursday 15th April. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 19th May at Church House, Westminster.
