FROM AUTHOR GRAEME LAY SOMEWHERE OUT IN THE PACIFIC
June 17

12 degrees south latitude, 170 degrees west longitude
Seas moderate, skies partially cloudy, air temperature 26 degrees

Pacific Sky is on a north-westerly course, bound for Apia, Samoa, averaging 16 knots.

The horizon has enclosed us since we left Bora Bora two days ago, the ocean is a shade of very beautiful blue. A humpback whale surfaced alongside the ship yesterday, checked us out curiously, flopped about for a bit, then sounded.

The book club meetings in the ship's Speakeasy Lounge continue to be very well attended, as have my lectures on our various ports-of-call. The ship's boutique has almost run out of my books. Why didn't I bring more?
Best wishes,
Graeme
