TWO GEMS FROM WALKER BOOKS

A CHRISTMAS CAROL
Charles Dickens – illustrations by Robert Ingpen
Walker Books – NZ$39.99 A$34.95

This magnificent new hardback edition of Dicken’s timeless classic is unabridged and has been most beautifully illustrated by the award-winning master book illustrator Robert Ingpen.
With his full colour illustrations, generously scattered throughout the book, he has captured the atmosphere of Victorian London and the story of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge who is taught the true meaning of Christmas.
Also includes the Dickens short story, A Christmas Tree.

A wonderful Christmas gift for grandchildren and god children or just to have on your own shelf. A treasure.

MILLICENT
Jeannie Baker – Walker Books
NZ$17.99 - A$15.95

Jeannie Baker is one of those talented folk who can both write and illustrate children’s picture books and she is, of course, one of the great contemporary Australian children’s authors. I am proud to have all of her books on my bookshelf.
This particular story, using Baker’s signature collage artwork, is about a lady in Sydney’s Hyde Park who feeds the pigeons each day. A gentle soulful story.
Millicent was originally published in 1980 by Andre Deutsch then reissued by Scholastic in 1989 and reprinted many times through the 90’s. Now it has been brought back into print by Walker Books for which I thank them.
