World-first Lonely Planet store to open at Sydney Airport, Australia
July 07, 2008

Lonely Planet and Lagardère Services Asia Pacific are joining forces to create the first ever ‘Lonely Planet’ concept store, opening in mid-2009 as part of Sydney Airport’s $500 million International Terminal redevelopment.
The partnership is set to bring an innovative retail experience to the 10 million international travellers who pass through the airport each year.

As well as selling the full range of Lonely Planet’s travel guides, phrasebooks, pictorials and reference books, the store will stock a range of high-quality travel accessories and gift items.
The store will also feature new media systems such as online interactive portals showcasing Lonely Planet’s digital content, and staff will have specialist travel knowledge – taking the store beyond a typical retail experience and providing an information hub for travellers.

The creation of this unique store is made possible by a strong ‘trinity’ partnership between Lagardère Services, Sydney Airport Corporation Limited and Lonely Planet. The three organisations, along with design group Studio Red, will create a vibrant, 90-square-metre interactive retail space within the international terminal.
