HEDLEYS BOOKSHOP CELEBRATES 100 YEARS
Hedleys Booksellers was established in 1907 by William Hedley, initially as a distributor of daily newspapers in Masterton New Zealand, but was developed by Alexander Hedley over the next 60 years into a large independent stockholding bookshop.
It is now owned and managed by David and Jenny Hedley.
A family bookshop celebrates 100 years of continuous family ownership. What a mighty achievement. Bookman Beattie offer his warmest congratulations to David & Jenny and wishes them the happiest of anniversaries this coming weekend and all the best for the next 100!
And be sure to be listening to Kim Hill's Saturday morning show on Radio New Zealand National this Saturday when the queen of the airwaves will be talking to David Hedley from 10.15am.
Footnote:
Bookman Beattie owes a lot to the late Alex Hedley who was his mentor when BB first entered the retail bookselling world way back in 1968.
Because of a prior commitment to the Going West Writers & Readers Festival BB is sadly unable to be in Masterton to join in the centennial celebrations.
