HARPER COLLINS LAUNCHES BOOKS ON DEMAND WITH NODDY

Marketing Week advise that HarperCollins is the first major book publisher to launch printed "books on demand" with the launch of the first personalised books for children's favourite, Noddy.

Consumers will be able to personalise characters and text in books ordered online.
Consumers will be able to choose from three Noddy adventures to create a book online at http://www.mynoddybook.co.uk/.

They can include a child's name, hairstyle and colour, eye colour and skin tone to create an image of the child within the book. They can also add a personal message.
HarperCollins and publishing partner Penwizard are working with Noddy license-owner Chorion to roll out Noddy books with customised characters and images.

Amanda Ridout, managing director for general books, says: "As part of our ongoing commitment to expanding the boundaries of traditional publishing we are proud to be first to market with a leap forward in personalised publishing."

The books are printed using Web-to-print technologies and can be printed in several languages. Penwizard has worked with IT giant Hewlett-Packard to develop its digital printing capability.
